This is a short trek through some of the most beautiful forests of western Bhutan. The cultural part of the tour will include visits to various tourist attractions and landmarks in Paro, Thimphu and Punakha before and after the trek.
Day 01 Arrive at Paro
You will be received by a representative of Kibou Bhutan Tours and Treks at the airport from where you will be driven to your hotel. In the afternoon after a visit to the Rinpung Dzong, which is a 17th century fortress/monastery that also houses the local administration office, the rest of the day may be spent at leisure with a stroll through the town. End the day with a welcome dinner back at the hotel.
Day 02 Paro (Sightseeing) – Thimphu
Drive to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong in the morning to take in the view of the valley and other sights along the way such as the famous Tiger’s Den Monastery perched precariously upon a cliff and other temples and monasteries. In the afternoon visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang (temple) and the National Museum which is housed in an ancient watch. Drive to Thimphu later in the afternoon
Day 03 Thimphu (Sightseeing)
In the morning visit Zilukha Nunnery, the National Library, and the Memorial Chorten then the Textile Museum in the afternoon.
Day 04 Thimphu – Punakha
After an early breakfast drive to Punakha. Stop briefly at Dochula for tea along the way to take in the view of the northern mountain range then continue to Punakha. In the afternoon visit the Punakha Dzong which is a 17th century fortress that is the winter residence of the Central Monastic body and houses the district administration office as well. We may also visit a traditional farm house for an insight into the life of the local farmer. Spend the rest of the day at leisure in preparation for tomorrows trek.
Day 05 Khuruthang – Limukha
The trek begins with a gradual climb up through Chir pine forest, with a visit to the village of Dompala on the way. We camp for the night at the camp site along the trail.
Day 06 Limukha – Chungsakha
Today we trek for 14 kms through rhododendron and oak forests. We stop for a brief visit to a monastery dedicated to the famous Drukpa Kuenley along the way and eventually arrive at the camp site after 5 to 6 hours.
Day 07 Chungsakha – Samtengang
The third day’s trail takes us through the beautiful village of Sha. After a trek of 13 kms, about 5 hours until we arrive at the camp site beside the Samtengang Lake.
Day 08 Samtengang – Wangdi/Punakha
On the fourth day, the trail descends down to the motor road, where the vehicles await us. We then drive through Wangdiphodrang to Punakha where we stop for the night at the hotel.
Day 09 Punakha – Thimphu
Drive to Thimphu in the morning. After lunch at the hotel in Thimphu, visit Semtokha Dzong and other places of interest at your convenience. In the evening take a leisurely stroll through town and shop for souvenirs. Halt for the night at the hotel in Thimphu.
Drive to Paro International airport after an early breakfast, for your onward journey home.
