Trongsa at an altitude of 2,300 m and with its spectacular landscape is one of the most historic town of Bhutan. Both the First and the  Second King ruled the country from Trongsa. All the kings of Bhutan are given the title of the Trongsa Penlop before ascending the throne.
Places of interest around Trongsa
Trongsa Dzong: Built on many levels into the side of the hill, Trongsa Dzong is the largest in the country and this particularly impressive fortress is often described as a dragon flying over mountain the larges Dzong in the country. Trongsa Dzong is also the ancestral home of the Royal Family.

Kuenga Rabten: The palace of the second king is about 25 km from Trongsa town. A nunnery is located few minutes from the palace.
Trongsa is also a good place for bird lovers.
